Botulinum therapy is the most popular procedure for combating facial wrinkles. Several precise injections of Botox, Dysport, Novacutan BTA or Relatox, and facial features are transformed. And correction of wrinkles is not the only “area of responsibility” of these drugs.
Why do wrinkles appear? There are several reasons, but the main one is hypertonicity (tension) or high muscle activity. That is, the more you frown, smile, squint, the more facial wrinkles appear. To eliminate this problem, the facial muscles need to be relaxed. For this, botulinum toxin type A is used – the main active ingredient in Dysport, Botox, Relatox, Xeomin, Novacutan BTA and other similar drugs.
Botulinum therapy has clear limits of action. For example, drugs smooth out only facial wrinkles:
Botox injections can lift the eyebrows, corners of the lips or the tip of the nose. If the patient has asymmetry caused by neurological problems, injections of Botox, Dysport or other drugs can restore symmetry to the face. Also, with the help of such drugs, you can eliminate a gummy smile, because it is often caused by high activity of the orbicularis oris muscle.
The procedure takes less than 30 minutes. Thanks to the correct dosage of the drug, facial expressions are not disturbed and there is no mask effect. The result of botulinum therapy is visible after 1-2 weeks, when the muscles are completely relaxed. The effect lasts for about six months. After repeated injections, wrinkles are often less pronounced because the muscles “learn” to relax.
Immediately after the procedure, you can return to your normal rhythm of life. But a number of requirements need to be taken into account.
